The Brain score: making learning legible

Learning is diffuse. Feedback is delayed. Grades come months late. The Brain score is our attempt to make progress visible weekly.

Traditional education has a feedback problem. You submit an assignment. Two weeks later a grade comes back. You take an exam in December. You get a letter in January. Progress is invisible until it's not.

The Brain score is our attempt to make progress legible on a weekly cadence. One number, 0–100, computed every Sunday.

The formula is deliberately simple: 40% recall accuracy, 30% calibration, 30% explain-back average. Each component is measurable and controllable. Recall accuracy improves with more (and better) recall reviews. Calibration improves with more honest confidence-tagging. Explain-back improves with real production practice.

We publish the components alongside the composite so students can see what to work on. A student whose recall is 90% but calibration is 40% has a specific problem: they know the material but not what they know. A student with the opposite profile has learned to trust their own judgment but needs more raw retrieval practice.

The shareable OG image is deliberate too. A public score creates accountability. Even sharing it privately with a study group changes the incentive structure of the week.
