The temptation, at every stage of building this company, is to say yes to the answer. To ship an 'answer button.' To let the tutor 'just help this one time.' To weaken the classifier for the sake of a good demo. To add a mode that toggles the stance off.
We won't. Not because we don't feel the pull — we do — but because every yes to the answer is a no to the product's whole reason for existing.
Refusal is a discipline. It has to be practiced, at every meeting, in every design review, on every day the pressure to convert grows louder. So far we've held. So far we've been rewarded — by our users, by our metrics, by the specific look on a student's face when they solve a problem the tutor refused to solve for them.
We plan to keep refusing.
