It's been exactly a year since we shipped v1. Here's the honest retrospective.
What we shipped: the core Learn mode, the hint ladder, explain-back grading, spaced recall, Brain score, Efficiency mode, output guard, parent dashboard, Stripe, image attempts, voice attempts, study groups (beta), streaming, two institutional pilots. Plus a Series A and a growing team.
What we learned: users want the stance more than they say they do. The first-week complaints about the attempt-gate invert into praise by week three. Every product decision that softens the stance has hurt retention. Every decision that holds it has helped.
What we regret: launching without image attempts. It cost us three months of frustrated math and chem users. We should have prioritized it in v1.
What's next: multi-language, deeper institutional support, a native mobile app, and the boring, patient work of getting the product to more of the students who need it. See you in year two.
